Healthcare Provider HeartCode BLS Certification Courses

Intended Students: The AHA’s Heartcode BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals including: physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and others as required by their employer who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

Healthcare Providers HeartCode® BLS Online Course:

Description: BLS Skills Session is a blended learning course designed for both new and seasoned healthcare professionals. Prior to enrolling in the BLS Skills Session, students must have completed the online 1.75 Hour Online HeartCode® BLS Course portion of the course with the American Heart Association.

HeartCode® BLS uses the latest eSimulation technology to enable students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities, this course teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency, adaptability to different learning styles, and flexibility for the student’s and employer’s time. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Blended training also supports the need for hands-on learning of psychomotor skills. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation.

Healthcare Providers HeartCode® BLS Hands-On Session:

Course Fee $50.00
After completing the eLearning component, students will attend a structured Instructor-led course that focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols and skills testing. Where available, students may also complete the hands-on portion is required for final completion of the course and for issuance of a valid BLS Provider Certification Card. Students should Print out and bring proof of having successfully completed the online portion of the course with them to the scheduled BLS Skills Sessions with an AHA instructor. During the BLS Skills Session, students will practice BLS skills and check-off on the manikins. The required pocket mask with one-way valve is provided for the student to use during training and keep following the class. The cost of the BLS Skills Session is $50.00. Certifications for BLS Provider are issued same day.

 

Healthcare Providers HeartCode® BLS Full Course:

Course Fee $80.00

Description: The Healthcare Providers HeartCode® BLS Full Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Upon successful completion of the BLS Skills test, students must pass the written exam with a score of 84%. Certifications for BLS Provider are issued same day.

 

After successfully completing the full HeartCode BLS Course (online portion, followed by hands-on session),
students should be able to:
  • Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
  • Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival
  • Apply the BLS concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult
  • Describe the importance of early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of an AED
  • Provide effective ventilation using a barrier device
  • Perform high-quality CPR for a child
  • Perform high-quality CPR for an infant
  • Describe the importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation
  • Perform as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an adult or child
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for an infant
